Saira, thank you for sharing this! Happy Mother's Day to you! 🩷 I am not a mum yet myself, and sadly I don't think I ever will be 😔 I wish I could experience being loved by a child, and I wish I could experience loving a child like my Mum did to me. I learned so much from her, like her patience and silent strength - always busy doing something even when she was not feeling well. She is my best friend, my comforter, my light. I call her several times a day, and i think she loves that even though she wouldn't admit it. I think it drives her crazy that i still rely on her for advice at this age and all the way away from her, but i think she secretly adores me too, and cannot wait to say my name (or see my face on messenger), every time we talk. Now, I long to have these experiences with my own children, and i wrote this poem below for them. I think this is how my Mum feels about me (us her children) too🩵

My pleasure, Anna! It was Mother’s Day here in the UK yesterday (Sunday), so Friday felt like the perfect time to share this.

Your comment truly moved me—your love for your mum shines through every word. I could feel the strength of your bond, the tenderness, and the quiet admiration. It’s beautiful how you describe her as your comforter and light, and how she still remains such a guiding force in your life.

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt piece of your story with us. And I know your future poem will carry all the love and longing in your heart—what a beautiful way to honour both your mum and your dreams.

Sending you warmth and gratitude. 😭💛❤️✨️🤗

A LETTER TO MY FUTURE CHILDREN©

Dear Children, My most special daughters, And my most special sons, You know who you are. I will not mention or write down your names anymore, because apart from the fact that I know them by heart, I feel like those names are, like you, so fragile and should be handled with the utmost care and like newborn babies, only respond to the softest, gentlest, most loving touch.

…And while I am looking forward to hearing myself calling you by them, and other people using them to address or refer to you, I would rather save it for the best and most appropriate and most opportune – the perfect – time…

Let this letter also be a way of saying I am truly sorry…

because, I see your beautiful faces looking at and looking back at me with so much anticipation and longing. I see your wonderful smiles that give me hope to face a brand new day, and give me reassuring comfort at the end of a long one. I see your bright eyes sparkle and glow at the thought of us being all together. I see your tiny, little arms reaching out for a touch, a warm hug (though it be in my mind). I feel your warm love envelope me as much as it overwhelms you. …And know that, though these dreams have become, and still are real to me, I succumb to the fact that I do not have control over certain things and circumstances. …And am not quite sure if, and when, I would be able to breathe you into life, into reality. Or someone else will. And although it is true that we each make our own fate, I also believe that it is but right to let nature take its own course --- that it is only through the same, destiny, that we realize which particular road to take.

So with this, I pray that ---

However long time takes,

However far away the horizon is,

However difficult or painstaking

The journey will be,

However futile

or senseless the reasons

May seem to be,

Whatever obstacles

I go through,

-- Under no circumstances will I stop trying.

…If only to utter your names,

If only to put a face behind those names,

If only to put a smile on those faces,

If only to look into those eyes,

If only to feel your love,

Through those arms that I try to reach out to as well…

…This time, for real.

Wow, Anna. This is absolutely beautiful. Your words carry such deep love, patience, and hope. I could feel every emotion—every wish, every ache, every dream—woven into this letter.

There’s something so sacred about the way you speak to your future children, as if you're already holding them in your heart. You honour them even before they arrive, and that alone shows the incredible mother you already are in spirit.

Thank you for trusting us with such an intimate piece of your soul. I truly believe your love will find its way—whether through the children you raise, or the ones you inspire through your words. ✨️❤️💛

Beautiful tribute and acknowledgment of your love for your mum.

After raising 5 kids in a loving home, you can only imagine the pain of the estrangement my oldest daughter has chosen from me and her siblings. They call this 'ambiguous loss' and it is a challenging and painful liminal space to live in.

I always say, mothering has been my spiritual path, cracking me wide open in every way. 🙏

Wishing you happy mother's day, today and every day, Saira.

Tamy, thank you so much for sharing this. Your words are deeply moving, and I’m truly touched by your honesty and vulnerability. I can’t imagine how heavy that space must feel—‘ambiguous loss’ is such a powerful and heartbreaking way to describe it.

Mothering really does open us up in ways we never expected. Your strength, your love, and your courage shine through every word.

Wishing you peace and healing as you continue walking this spiritual path. And thank you again for connecting so openly.

I don’t have children of my own, but your words remind me of the depth and beauty of a mother’s love. Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day—today and every day, Tamy.

Beautiful and heartfelt, your words of love for your mothers and all mothers ❤️

In the Netherlands mothers day is in may, but why not an extra day to shine a light and love upon the mothers (or other caregivers) who share their unconditional love with children. An absence of that will leave lifelong scars on the heart of a child, so important to emphasize the importance of creating circumstances that enable safe and loving environments for all children to grow up in ❤️

Saira this is such a heartfelt tribute to the many ways a mother’s love—or absence—leaves its mark on us. For those who’ve felt the warmth of that love, your words are a gentle reminder of its power. And for those of us with more complicated relationships, it’s proof that love, care, and resilience can take many forms.

Motherhood isn’t just about where we come from—it’s about who shows up, who holds us, who teaches us love in all its shapes and for me that was my beautiful grandmother.

Sending love to everyone moving through today in their own way. 💛

Thank you for the feature 🙏🏽 I completely didn't expect that. And this article about our mothers has indeed reflected from the poem I recently posted. I've realized a lot from my mom, but the one that really sticks to me is how she stands up to fight for respect. She is a strong woman and I have learned this from her ❤️
